Pictures of Sea Urchins

Sea urchins are some of the coolest creatures living in the sea. They have long spikes that help them navigate under water, but we usually see them spike-less.
The Pixabay site has some new, awesome sea urchin photos which I will share here.
Remember that these are free images, which have been added to the public domain, and you can find more like them at Pixabay.com.

  1. I guess the storms are the reason. I’ve always heard that it’s the time to beachcomb – after storms. It’s a bit sad to think that the ocean gets so rough it will kill the sea life, or toss them up on shore to die.

  2. There were storms in January and we were there not too long after. Several wave lines on beach of debris – found so much – sea urchins, star fish, tulips, fighting conch, etc.

  3. I wonder why there were so many dead ones? I love the look of stacking them. They are so fragile, my only urchin has broken.

  4. I found a bunch of (dead) sea urchins at Sanibel Island in February. Most are brownish, but some have a natural pink or purplish color. I stacked 5 to look like a tree, put a string through, and have them hanging in my office.
