Although I own a lot of seashells that were collected from the beaches of Florida, there are many I don’t have. I’ve been planning to purchase a sea star - more commonly called a star fish. It’s one of the most sought after treasures from the ocean and probably right behind the sand dollar in popularity.
I do all my own photography for my cards, postage and wedding designs and can’t do starfish because I don’t have one. They are not expensive, I just have to get around to ordering one or two or more.
There are many types of starfish and they don’t all look the way I picture a starfish to look, so I’d probably buy a variety for my photography.
Another shell I’d like to have is a Jujonia, although I seldom see them for sale and when I do they are expensive since they are rare. The horse conch is another interesting shell and I love the look of the helmet shells. I only need a photograph or two and really don’t like the idea of buying shells. After all, they were once living creatures and some are now becoming threatened from over harvesting…such as the Queen Conch and Chambered Nautilus.
Here is a list of the online stores I’ve stumbled across and will probably order my sea stars from one of them. If I can ever stop blogging long enough to do so….
Caribbean Imports - have larger shells for sale and note that many come in packages of 6 or more.
Sea Shell City -also have gift items made of shells
Sanibel Seashells - will sell kits containing a variety of shells (the kit with the Jujonia is $50!)
