Smooth and white inside and out, the Dosinia seashell is somewhat flat and very round. As I did research for this shell, I came across this site which is written by someone far more knowledgeable than I am in this area, and I discovered that there are two types of Dosinia that are very similar looking. The “Disk Dosinia” may be what I have.
The difference between the “elegant” and “disk” is that the elegant’s ridges are fewer and broader.
The one I own was found whole- having both sides-but it has separated. You can see in the photo how the sides once fit together.
